One of the more fun/rewarding things we get to do is occasionally visit elementary schools. We spend time with the little ones explaining what we do as firefighters, what a typical day is like, our training and explain some of the many tools we use. We dress up in fire gear and try to persuade a teacher to try on some of the heavy stuff we wear. We do this so if there is a fire, children won't be afraid of us and hide.

The next and most important thing is fire safety education: be sure smoke detectors are working and crawl low in smoke. Lastly have a family meeting place once they leave a building with an emergency and most importantly, never go back inside for anything.

Today we were privileged to visit with the Kindergarten and first grade students at Freedom Elementary School. Thanks Freedom for inviting us to your school!

Several updates. . .

Winter is a challenge for construction. Station two's addition work this past week was to form and pour the exterior foundation walls. There has also been some interior framing and HVAC work too.

Over a year ago (16 months to be exact), we mentioned that a new ladder truck was ordered. This week actual construction finally began. We should be getting photos of the of the truck as it works its way down the assembly line. We will share them with you from time to time. Delivery is expected in May.

Construction time for new apparatus is increasing. The "lead" time is now three years. The costs for fire apparatus go up each year. We thought it was wise to get the ball rolling on a new pumper truck. The last new pumper truck came in 2017, so it will be 9 years old when the new pumper arrives. We will post more on that when we get shop drawings.

Zoneton Fire Protection District

Our hearts go out to the families, friends, loved ones and neighbors of the three people who perished in Thursday morning’s house fire in Lebanon Junction.

We know this tragedy will also weigh heavily on firefighters, emergency medical personnel and law enforcement officers who responded. We will be thinking about them as they work through the difficult days ahead.

If there are those in the Zoneton community who are without working smoke detectors, please reach out to us at either 955-8076 or socialmedia@zonetonfire.com.
