As you see in the attached Kentucky Transportation Cabinet graphic, a segment of Brooks Hill Road will be closed for much of next week. This complete closure is between Holsclaw Hill Road and Brook Valley Road.

We want to assure those affected by this closure that fire apparatus will show up when needed. However, because of lengthened response distance, a delay is likely.

We are very fortunate to be a part of a mutual aid system that is second to none. That ensures we can access all the resources we need to resolve an emergency as quickly as possible. We respond with our neighboring fire departments nearly each day. Sometimes it us going into a neighboring district because we can get there faster, or it may be the other way around. The goal is to get emergency resources to someone in need regardless of the name on the fire truck.

As always, please continue to be safe!KY 1526 (Brooks Hill Road): 🚧 Closed 🚧 from 8am on Monday, Feb. 28, thru Friday, March 4, between Holsclaw Hill and Brooks Valley roads in Bullitt County. That’s near mile point 9.4. This is a full road closure with 🛑 no through traffic 🚗🚙. Contractors 👷 will be stabilizing a hillside that slipped during recent rains 🌧 and damaged the roadway. Motorists should follow this route to avoid roadway closure: KY 1020 to KY 61 to KY 44. #KnowBeforeYouGo Trooper Scotty Sharp Bullitt County Public Schools

We have just received word that due to some kind of equipment breakage, completion has been pushed to March 8.

If anyone is curious to know the "behind the scenes stuff" on something like this, here is an image of what Chief Moulton distributed to ZFD members, giving some specifics.

Motor vehicle collisions are a frequent call for service. Greater speeds mean greater damage, often trapping people inside.

Extricating victims from automobiles, or any other entrapment situation, is delicate work. The goal is to remove the object from around the victim. Clearances are often small and the operators of rescue tools have to be skilled to avoid causing additional injury to victims. "Rough housing" or banging and beating on vehicles can worsen internal injuries.

This week’s training was to practice that delicate task of rescue tool operation. Firefighters practiced grasping eggs from on top of traffic cones and moving the egg to another cone. The other portion was to remove blocks of cribbing material and re-stacking while extending the time until eventual collapse.

Modern rescue tools can be either hydraulic or battery operated. Each has its advantages and drawbacks. Fortunately rescue tools are much lighter than early versions making nimble operation easier. They will pinch or spread things apart, make cuts in metal or push things away.

We got it knocked down as best we could - not nearly as bad as it was. Deep seated mulch fires are very difficult to completely extinguish. So it will be smoldering for an extended time. Thanks also to Shepherdsville for sending an engine and Okolona for responding to the other calls we had while we were tied up on this.

I think I smelt it burning at 9pm Sunday night

Make sure you read the burn laws

Omg y would they do this
